Debut album 'The Narrow State' released on Feb 27th 2012.

The Narrow State has landed!

That’s right. Our debut album is now available to stream and download in full from here. This is what people have said about it so far:

“…packs more inventiveness into 36 minutes than most bands of this ilk manage in an hour…an accomplished debut that displays their talent to its fullest extent”
The Blue Walrus

“Rumour Cubes have truly delivered on this fine debut album”
GoldFlakePaint

“…an accomplished debut effort from a potentially brilliant band.”
The 405

“Rumour Cubes carry themselves with an essence of individuality that makes them all the more intriguing…six astounding songs that will coincide with you in a haze of resentment, melancholy and euphoria.”
Sound Revolution

“I also don’t see many bands creating something as unique as ‘Triptych’ or as pretty as ‘Tempus Fugit’”
The Silent Ballet

“…enormous variety and no flat spots.”
Echoes and Dust

“Rumour Cubes made a fantastic album (debut, nonetheless!) in The Narrow State.”
Sloucher

“All in all Rumour Cubes’ The Narrow State is one of the best post rock albums I ever heard. The great sounds, the fantastic mix and the songs themselves – post rock doesn’t get much better than this.”

Album Preview: The Gove Curve / Back the Strikes!

Teachers will strike tomorrow, along with millions of other workers, to tell Michael Gove and other Tory ministers they won’t take the pain for a crisis they did not cause.

On the eve of this strike we are previewing a track from our upcoming album - our own portrait of the education secretary: ‘The Gove Curve’.

The track is also available on http://www.rumourcubes.com/ - our new website. Back the strikes!

Conversations from the studio #2

  • Hannah: I think I need some booze
  • Joe: You should get some booze. It would make me feel better, as I'm going to get really quite drunk if I carry on doing this
  • Omar: What, drinking?
  • Joe: Yeah, that.

Update!

So, been a while without any communications - apologies for that, but it’s been an incredibly busy time for us.

We’ve played quite a lot of gigs so far this year, which have all gone pretty well. We played the Lexapalooza Lite festival in February, where the simply wonderful Frank Turner introduced us, we played an ArtUncut event in March with Josie Long and Chris TT, and most recently we played a Sweet Beans gig on 21st April with MinionTV (who we love), Killington Fall and Atlases. We were also played on BBC Introducing over the weekend - at about 3am, but still, a very exciting moment for us!

So, that’s what’s been happening. What’s happening going forward?

We have a number of gigs coming up which will all be really quite awesome.

  • 20th May - The Unicorn, Camden, with Orders Of The British Empire
  • 2nd July - The Zenith, Islington, with Alright The Captain and Solomon Grundy (in aid of British Tinnitus Association)
  • 10th July - Sweet Beans Festival, headlined by the simply incredible Her Name Is Calla
  • 14th July - 93 Feet East, Brick Lane, supporting DeLooze

We’re also currently (as in, right now!) recording in a wonderful studio in Mile End. It’s called Cafe Music Studios, and is quite simply the most fantastic place I think I’ve ever seen. I could spend hours here just poking around, looking at everything that’s all over the walls and on the shelves, opening draws, and just generally wishing that I lived here. Mark and Charif are doing some truly incredible things with our sound, and are very much on board with how we want to sound and offering some very good suggestions for improvement.

We’re here all day today and tomorrow, and then two days next week, by the end of which we’ll hopefully have four tracks that have been professionally recorded and mastered and A&Rd and which sound pretty damned impressive!

So, that’s us. What have you lot been up to?

Occasionally, we play music. Cafe Music Studio really is the most wonderful place I’ve ever been (this is the lounge)

A conversation in the studio

  • Simon: What are you guys doing?
  • Hannah: Band admin type stuff.
  • Adam: Badmin, really.
  • Joe: Is there a ton of it?
  • Us: Eh?
  • Joe: You know, a badmin-ton.
  • Terry: Get out.
